No Birds

One
The girl
              is praying
on her knees
                     beside her
bedside                     her face
is like the face you see in spoons.
Two
She'll make a lovely ghost, Father said.
The teeny room was blue-lit from
a TV set, jutting from the pink wall
like an insect, the kind that blinds you
with camouflage-it pretends to be you.
I need a cold drink.  Please excuse me.
